Whom exactly should you call upon in the spirit world for help, and what can they do anyway? Well, the answer is: anybody and anything. I have a friend who strongly believes in the intercession of those above. She cried out to spirit to help her find a job, but she couldn’t release her financial worries. Later that day her concerns caused her to ask spirit again. The response she “heard” was: Have we ever let you down before? What makes you think we’re going start now? Days later, she got a call from a company where she’d interviewed more than three months earlier. She landed that job, and it was there that she met the person who was to be her future boss at yet another company. Without knowing it at the time, she had begun climbing the ladder of success.
I asked my friend, who was it in the spirit world who had told her not to worry? She told me that she didn’t know precisely, but she knew it was a “higher intelligence.” This is the way it goes – you don’t always have to know exactly upon whom you’re calling. Sometimes you can request help from spirit in general or from your spirit friends and loved ones; you can also invoke your higher guides, your angels, your own soul, and even the Divine.
Actor Denzel Washington revealed in an interview that while shooting the movie Glory, he needed to prepare for the scene in which he was to be whipped. He, too, reached out to those unknown in the spirit world, saying, “All you men and women in spirit who’ve been whipped, come be with me. I’ll let go and let whatever happens happen.”
In this interview, Washington pointed to two of the most crucial steps in working with spirit in any and every endeavor. First, make the call! Your spirit guides certainly show up without your inviting them, but your request clarifies and crystallizes your intention – both for you and for them. (Never forget: Ask, and it shall be answered.) Second, let what happens, happen! Let go of your need for control. Trust what you perceive. Trust that you’ll be led exactly where you need to go. With spirit to help you, simply begin to practice trust – in the little things and in the big decisions. You’ll be surprised by the doors that will open and the opportunities you will discover!

One area where you are probably quite familiar with intuitive symbols is your dream life. You can practice working with symbols more consciously by “redreaming.” Choose a dream (or day-dream) which is very familiar, comfortable, and strong for you. Recall it as completely as you can. Then close your eyes and recreate it in your imagination from beginning to end. See it, feel it, taste it, smell it. Be in it as fully and completely as possible. And simply notice all of its symbols.
Since this a dream, you don’t have to wonder if it makes sense. It can go in any strange direction it wants, and it doesn’t have to mean anything in particular. It is a reflection of your own mind and, as such, is valid. Seek to experience the dream fully and richly; and if you can’t recall it in its entirety (or if you can hold only part of it in your mind), then pour yourself into that part. Notice every detail and feel every emotion. Discover what it tells you.
Once you’ve practiced this with a dream or day-dream you’ve already had, ask your intuition for an intuitive story (or a waking dream) that can give you information to help you now. Close your eyes, look for a symbol and pretend you are dreaming about it. Allow it to expand, change, grow and take you through an evolving story. It doesn’t have to make sense. You don’t have to second-guess your impressions. You don’t have to question the mini-dream’s validity. There is no right or wrong. All of the images in your dreams and intuition — though subtle and sometimes surrealistic — are valid because they seek to inform. Notice what they tell you and how you feel. Take a few notes about your experience in your journal; write down what you feel the symbols mean. Come back to this journal entry now-and-again to see how the events in your life have reflected this intuitive message. As you continue to touch in with your intuitive symbols and stories regularly, you’ll see just how much insight lies within.

The most significant of the prophets in the new Testament are John, who authored The Book of Revelation, John the Baptist, and of course, Jesus himself.
Revelation, the last book of the New Testament, is the only book of prophecy. Unlike many books of the bible which were written originally in Aramaic, Revelation was first written in Greek. Its first title word, Apokalypsis, was a Greek word which simply meant “revelation.”
While some people believe that this prophecy depicts the actual coming of Armageddon (the final, conclusive and devastating battle between good and evil), many others believe that these images represent the persecution of those times and the hope of God’s intervention to bring justice to the situation. Still others believe that Revelation is mostly allegorical reflecting the inner struggles of the individual and humankind alike. (For Edgar Cayce’s take on the Book of Revelation, see Revelation- A Commentary Based on a Study of 23 Psychic Discourses by Edgar Cayce, A.R.E. Press, 1995.)
Perhaps the most significant new Testament texts about prophecy can be found in Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians (Chapter 14). Here are some excerpts.
“Aim at charity, yet strive after the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.”
“What then is to be done, brethren? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, has an instruction, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation.”
“For you all can prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be encouraged.”
“So then, brethren, desire earnestly the gift of prophesying and do not hinder the gift of speaking in tongues. Only let all things be done properly and in order.”
~ I Corinthians 14:1, 26, 31, 40
It was very common during Paul’s time that mystical experiences were often accompanied by ‘speaking in tongues’ (languages and words which the speaker did not understand). Paul believed that speaking in tongues was significant as evidence of divine overshadowing. As such, it was very helpful in the efforts of converting others to the church. Yet, he also believed that if you did not have an interpretation of the foreign words, then what good would it do? To Paul, it was much more important to develop prophesying because that’s what brought the guidance and inspiration through which one could grow.
In I Cor. 14. Paul teaches us to come together one-to-one and in a group to develop our spiritual gifts; to lift our vibration through songs or hymns; to have “an instruction,” or particular exercises which we can use regularly; to have a “revelation,” or the spontaneous reception of image or message; to prophesy; and finally, when we do get an image that may seem unintelligible (such as “tongues”), then we must take note and pursue every possible interpretation. Paul also tells us that the gifts of the spirit are different for each person:
“Now there are diversities of gifts, but there is only one Spirit.
And there are diversities of powers, but it is the one God who works all things in all men. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man as help to him.
For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit.
To another faith by the same Spirit; to another gifts of healing by the same Spirit.
To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another the means to distinguish the true Spirit; to another tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues.
But all of these gifts are wrought by that one and the same Spirit.”
~ I Corinth. 12:4-11
In this we learn that there are no right or wrong ways to practice the spiritual gifts. As long as the insights received point the way to a greater truth in the divine and loving soul, there is no technique that stands above or below another. There may be some people who link with spirit using methods that aren’t for you. Have tolerance for the differences you find. This is a significant step in your awareness of the compassionate self within. And, in terms of your work with spirit, it is a very important opportunity for you to learn from those differences. Paul makes it clear to us that there are many, many diverse gifts of the spirit. Watching others and learning new ways will help you diversify, too.

One of the most important ways of leaning to listen to the still, soft voice inside is through meditation. Indeed, if you want to truly cultivate a dialogue with your spirit, it's necessary to practice a relaxed, receptive alpha brain wave state of meditating everyday. Beyond meditation, it's also important to practice opening up to your inner voice during your waking life.
You can start with simple questions, which don't necessarily have to carry heavy emotional weight. "Which row has a parking space for me?" "Will the person I'm phoning be home?" Or even, "Which class is best for me?" Any question at all will do. Then, just "listen" inside for the first answer you get. It's important to be spontaneous with this and not get attached to the outcome in any way. These frequent questions simply allow you to practice your listening (or clairaudient) abilities many times each day. And although some of these situations seem incidental, over an extended period of time you will find many benefits that would not otherwise be available to you through alpha level experiences only. Spontaneity is the key. All you have to do is trust the very first perception you experience — even if it is only a little piece of a symbol and even if you don't immediately know what it means.
Here's a little exercise you can do now and many times throughout your day to touch in: Close your eyes and ask your spirit to give you a word — just one word right now. Trust the first thing you get. What is it?
You can change this little process in many ways. Ask for a sound, an image, a song, a symbol, or a feeling. Just keep it simple and spontaneous. You'll find that your regular outreach to your spirit will bring you insight and other benefits you couldn’t have imagined.
Benefits of Active Listening Every Day
The Building of Trust: This is certainly the most important benefit. Whether you find a parking space or know who's calling on the phone isn't nearly as important as the fact that you're asking spirit, both yours and your guides', to "talk" to you. By initiating these mini-dialogues, you allow yourself to open to the directions and to follow the input you receive from your intuition and from spirit.
Increasing Your Awareness: The more you allow yourself to receive input from spirit, the more sensitive you will be to receiving that guidance in the future. You will get used to talking to your spirit as a normal event throughout your day.
Creating an Open Door and a Stronger Connection: This third benefit of extended practice is not only for you, but also for spirit. After several months of practice, you will be receiving input from spirit about many things before you even ask for it — even in situations in which it wouldn't occur to you to ask for advice or assistance. By opening yourself to frequent communication with your spirit and with your spirit guides, you not only strengthen your preparedness to perceive them, you also strengthen their ability to make contact when they wish it, not just when you want it.
Strengthening the Significance of the Message: The last benefit of frequent, consistent, conscious communication with spirit is in the quality of the content you receive. You may, day in and day out, be practicing with little questions about where to find your keys or whether or not to bring your umbrella. But one day, when you are making an important decision about a situation in your business or personal life, you'll find that the information you need will be there. You will also find that information to be reliable and helpful.
Even if you find the significance of your intuitive messages growing, it is not a sign for you to discontinue your little practices with the smaller "less important" dialogues. Daily communication about little things will allow you to open to a greater and more intimate relationship with your own spirit and with your guides. And let's face it, sometimes it's more fun just to be together with spirit. (After all, do you discuss the meaning of life every time you go out for coffee with friends?)
So, keep taking little moments to invite your spirit into your life throughout your day. In little ways and large ways you will know the blessings of a vision that knows no bounds.

“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.”
An important group of people you will meet in spirit stand apart from the others not so much by who they are as by what they do. These might be considered your teachers or higher spiritual guides. You may have known them in this life (or another), but they can also be souls with whom you have had little or no previous relationship whatsoever. They are attracted to you through the light that you express into the spirit world, the light that reflects the purposes you hold and the activities you are pursuing. For instance, if you want to compose music, your light (or your aura) will reflect that by its energy and colors, acting as a sign to other souls and as an invitation for those who are interested in joining you in your work. (Carlos Santana told Rolling Stone Magazine that the inspiration for his comeback hit album was received in a message from his spirit guide. Carlos also received a message from critics and listeners through his multi-platinum CD sales and eleven Grammy nominations.)
Though a relationship with your own soul may be the most important one to develop in the eternal world, knowing your spirit guides can bring you great assistance in understanding your personal and eternal directives.
When you are in step with your spirit and when you have help from your guides, you might just end up changing the face of history.
One of the people whose co-creation with spirit changed history did it through a book. In its first year it sold over 300,000 copies in the United States alone — 3,000 of them on its first day. (That’s a mountain of books, a century and a half before Oprah!) It was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe — a white woman who had never seen a plantation slave and had never even been to the south. Nonetheless, Uncle Tom’s Cabin was one of the most widely read and influential books not only of its time, but in all of this country’s history. Harriet Beecher Stowe and Uncle Tom’s Cabin are extraordinary in two ways:
- Her book was one of catalysts for the war between the states. (When she met Abraham Lincoln in 1862, he took her hand and asked, “Is this the little woman who made this great war?”)
- Though Harriet Beecher Stowe was the author of record, she says she didn’t write it!
“I did not write that book,” she said. “I only put down what I saw… It all came before me in visions, one after another…” When asked whether she at least arranged the plot, she said that the events, the characters, and even the fates of those who would live or die “arose before her” without her control and, in some cases, such as the death of Eva, against her wishes. It was someone else who had designed the story and set the scene. Because Harriet Beecher Stowe had the courage and the confidence to trust her “otherworldly” guidance, she helped to change the course of slavery to freedom.
Harriet Beecher Stowe did not know who was working with her from the spirit world, but she allowed herself to embrace the directive that lay before her. You, too, can be assured that those who work with you in spirit (even if you have never known them before) are very much in keeping with your directives, because they are responding to your light as a reflection of their own. It is not unlike finding a teacher or collaborator to work with you in the physical world. Your spirit teachers wills stay with you as long as both of you are growing and benefiting from this very intimate sharing. They may leave once your interests no longer coincide, or if other purposes or teachers come to take you further. Or you might create a relationship with them that takes you to new interests together.
The point is that these teachers don’t necessarily have to have a history with you as long as they have a purpose with you. It could be creative, spiritual, personal, or emotional. Regardless of the types of interests you share with these beings, embrace the opportunity to let them help you to a higher realization of your goals and dreams.
“There is surely a piece of divinity in us, something that was there before the Elements and owes no homage unto the sun.”
The next level of spirit life, if indeed the world of spirit can be pigeonholed into levels, is that of the divine. It includes that identity that you know as God, whether that God is Christ, Allah, Emanuel, or Ra. It also embraces the identity that is you at the point of absolute communion with the divine and, indeed, in union with all that is in any world — physical and nonphysical. Our souls or spirit selves already exist and have existed at this plane of life eternally. Without this spark of divinity in each of us, we would cease to be. No matter what our lives are in the physical world, for each of us there is a spirit whose home, whose light, whose very life is sourced within the divine.
OPEN UP!Think of the individual you consider to be the Divine spirit. Feel that Divine presence beside you. Know that you can never be alone. Always present, always powerful, always the source of grace, this Divine soul is accessible to you in a heartbeat. Stop what you are doing right now, and simply BE with Godwho loves you.
God — whoever you feel God to be — is the one Spirit who can take you to your greatest truth and to your most unutterable realization of joy. If you seek no other spirit relationship, seek at least this one. It is here, in this relationship, that you discover wisdom, absolute confidence and fearlessness, and a catch-your-breath beauty that you will never find in any physical world experience.
I love the story about the old preacher, Henry Ven, who relished every step of his life in his relationship to God. As he lay, an old man, sick and dying, he asked his doctor feebly when he would be going to “his Father.” When the doctor indicated that it would be very soon, there was an immediate change in his demeanor. He became so jubilant at the prospect of meeting his Divine Father that he actually got better for two more weeks! For Henry, and for all of us, knowing the spirit of God in our lives makes divinity a presence that can be truly felt in our experience NOW. (And now is forever.)

What to Expect When You Get a Reading with Sharon
Sharon’s readings begin with evidential mediumship, where she shares who from the spirit world is there and how they identify themselves. Spirit uses their initials, names (even middle names), conditions of the body, locations, occupations, treasured objects, and cherished memories to identify themselves. But they also use the exact same type of information to identify living people if they have a message for or about them. For this reason, it’s important to be thinking about both worlds — that of spirit and the living — as Sharon describes the characteristics she is perceiving.
Your life is layered and complex and could be the topic of spirit’s conversation for hours. It is up to you to be in the driver’s seat and to direct the topics of the reading to suit your needs. Be sure to have your questions prepared so that your agenda can be met.
If there is time, Sharon will also take a look at your Tarot cards, which provide another perspective on the issues that are important to you. As our gift to you, you will receive a recording of your reading for future reference.
Many people ask if phone readings are as powerful and successful as in-person consultations. The answer would be a resounding yes! The world of spirit — by its very definition — is not physical but spiritual. And those who reside there are not limited by time or space. They can be anywhere in any moment. And your spirit guides and loved ones want to be with you!
Sharon’s clients call from all over the world. Whether they’re from Australia or South Africa, the Far East or the U.K., Anchorage or Manhattan — spirit is always available and eager to help. All you have to do is be open to receive.
To schedule a consultation, call our office at 440-871-5448
Cost for 30 minute session: $200.00
Sessions available: Half hour; 45 minutes; or hour (priced accordingly)
Sharon does provide small group sessions at her office (or via telephone). Groups are limited to four people and are charged at the same rate as private sessions. It’s important to have your questions and talking points ready for group sessions just as you would with individual consultations. With group sessions there can be many more spirit people present and many more messages. For this reason, a 45 minute or hour session is recommended.
If you are a professional medium, psychic, Tarot reader, or other type of intuitive practitioner, Sharon also provides private coaching sessions (in her office or via telephone).
These consultations are not readings; they are, rather, one-on-one tutoring sessions that focus on your precise individual needs and directives in your psychic work – from learning or expanding intuitive techniques, to various training and teaching modalities, to tips in running a professional practice. The fee for coaching sessions is half that of reading sessions.
